We arrived in Rapid City around 10am. The first thing I noticed was how small the airport was. If Mayberry was going to have a airport this would be it. After getting our bags went to get our rent a car. It was suppose to be a mid-size but it was a Nissan Versa. It was the perfect size for us but I would have liked a little more room. The first thing we did was drive to downtown. On each corner there are statues of all the presidents. We walked a couple blocks but there wasn't really anything else to see so we went to the visitor center for directions.

We got to our hotel, The Big Sky Lodge, around 3pm. The hotel sat on top of a big hill so it had a perfect view of Rapid City. The room was just the right size for us and the free breakfast was nice also.
I would stay at this hotel again if I were going back.
Around 4pm we decided to go ahead to Mt. Rushmore. We were only about 25 miles away. Right before getting to Mt. Rushmore there is a little city, Keystone, which reminded me of Gatlinburg. A lot of tourist spots, local restaurants, and hotels for $49.95. After entering the Mt. Rushmore parking lot we had to walk up a bunch of steps and there it was. We took a few pictures. Then we walked through a tunnel of flags and took more pictures. It was amazing site but after about 10 minutes I was ready to do something else. We took a walking tour with a ranger that took about a hour. In the gift shop was the last living worker of Mt. Rushmore. He was taking pictures and signing his book for $10. We didn't get anything but Minerva wish she would have now.

There is a night show with lights, music and fireworks at 9pm but it was only 6pm. Which I was looking forward to. We asked someone in gift shop what we could do for a couple hours and he suggested driving around Custer Park. So we drove in Custer Park, which had some pretty cool one lane tunnels.

About a hour into the park we came up on a pay station. It was $6 per adult and Samuel was free and it was good for 7 days. So I gave the guy a $20 and he said he would be right back with my change. It was taking him a long time to get my change and when he came back this is what he said. "There as been a tornado funnel spotted abut 20 miles south. I'm getting to shelter. If I were you I would get out of here. Here is your change. Be safe." WHAT? Minerva said she saw a campground about 10 minutes back. I told her to go there cause if we die we will die with other
people. Everything got real black and trees were swaying back & forth. I was truly scared. When we got to the the campground it just started hailing real bad. Minerva had a plan if we had to abandon the car. After about 30 minutes the hail stop and it lightened up a little bit. So we just drove back to the hotel and called it a night. Minerva said "I hope this ain't a sign of how are trip is going to be."
